Avalon Springs in Montagu is a truly family-friendly destination with so much to offer! A short two-hour drive from Cape Town, it is the perfect resort-style getaway for the entire family.
Avalon Springs Resort
At Avalon Springs, you can unwind at Dassie’s Poolside Bistro with a refreshing cocktail, enjoy a festive braai on the lawn, or indulge in a soothing treatment at the Wellness Spa. There are plenty of activities for the kids, including soccer, volleyball, chess, and the fun-filled Dream Xplorers Club.
Grant and I spent a weekend at Avalon Springs and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hot springs are so relaxing and exactly what we both needed after a hectic few weeks!
Avalon also makes for a fantastic option for a “Daycation” while exploring the Langeberg area or for locals looking for a delightful family outing. Day visitors can access a variety of pools, a thrilling water slide, numerous fun activities, braai and picnic spots, the resort spa, Cogman’s Restaurant, the Café, and Dassie’s Poolside Bistro.

The Avalon Suites feature two bedrooms and bathrooms, making them ideal for families or couples sharing. These suites boast fully equipped kitchens, dining and lounge areas and a private balcony.

Wining & Dining at Avalon Springs
You certainly won’t go hungry or thirsty at Avalon. There are plenty of delicious food and beverage offerings available from Cogman’s Restaurant, Dassies Poolside Bistro, and the Café.
The family-friendly Cogman’s Restaurant offers a selection of delicious meals and drinks. We enjoyed two wonderful dinners there; the flavours were outstanding, and the portion sizes generous. The restaurant’s wine list includes a carefully curated selection from local vineyards in and around Montagu, Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor, and Robertson.
For a relaxed vibe, Dassie’s Poolside Bistro is great for a cocktail or glass of wine and a light meal or pre-dinner drinks before heading to Cogman’s Restaurant.
In addition to braai baskets, visitors can also order picnic baskets and grab snacks or takeaways, as well as refreshments at the Café.
Facilities At Avalon Springs
The resort features nine natural hot springs pools, along with kiddies pools and an indoor pool. The water from the Hot Springs reaches the surface at 43°C. However, the temperature differs in the various pools due to the distance the water needs to travel.
Kids of all ages can join Kamo the Chameleon as an Xplorer! Simply sign up at the Dream Xplorer Club at the resort, and your “Passport” grants you access to fun and exciting activities. The more you complete, the more badges you earn. Collect enough badges, and you can win fabulous prizes!
The Wellness Spa offers a range of therapeutic massages and beauty treatments to hotel guests and day visitors. The Spa is open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm daily, and booking in advance is essential.
Communal braai and picnic facilities are available, and you can pre-order picnic or braai baskets in advance to enjoy on the day.
Things To Do
The town of Montagu is a short drive from the resort and offers an array of restaurants, coffee shops, and farm stalls. You can also explore attractions like the Montagu Museum, Nature Gardens, and Montagu Cellar. Don’t miss out on the Montagu Park Market, held every Saturday.
For those seeking adventure, the surrounding areas provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, golf, tennis, and wine tasting. Wine enthusiasts should definitely book a tour with Wine Valley Safari —it’s the best way to discover the Langeberg Wine Valley! We experienced a mini tour with WVS during our stay at Avalon Springs and enjoyed every moment.
