The views of the surrounding mountains and valleys are indeed a sight to behold!
Crags Country Lodge
Grant and I recently spent a romantic few nights at this gorgeous lodge. After a very long year, it was everything we needed!
The Rooms
The lodge boasts eight beautifully decorated rooms with contemporary furnishings and all the modern amenities you could wish for. Our luxury room was spacious, with a large ensuite bathroom, including a freestanding bath, a large walk-in shower, double vanities, and even a private outdoor shower.
Enjoying the breathtaking view from the private patio with a coffee was the perfect way to start the day.
Wining & Dining at Crags Country Lodge
Crags Country Lodge, however, is about more than just the stunning accommodation. The lodge’s wining and dining offering is equally impressive.
What better way to start your evening than with delicious pre-dinner cocktails at the restaurant bar? While a Negroni is usually my go-to cocktail, a Broken Negroni may be my new favourite. Barman Attwell also makes a mean Long Island Ice Tea!
Prepare yourself for fantastic culinary delights created by Chef Alice Burnham-King and her incredible team. Everything from the breakfast dishes to the decadent desserts was delicious and a true celebration of seasonal and local ingredients! During our stay, two of the standout dishes were an incredible individual lamb pie and a perfectly cooked slow-roasted lamb – earning Alice the unofficial title of “Lamb Queen”. Dessert highlights included a heavenly Macdania Nut Tart, with coffee créme anglaise and orange segments, and a Coconut Panna Cotta, which was reminiscent of being on a tropical island sipping a piña colada.
Sommelier James Burnham-King paired each dish with excellent local wines! Discovering and tasting wines from the area we had not tried before was an added highlight. Dining at the Crags Country Lodge was a gastronomic experience to remember!
Activities
For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Crags Country Lodge has plenty to offer. You can take a dip in the pool or relax on the deck, surrounded by the stunning scenery. You can also hike the trails, enjoy a mountain bike ride or explore the nearby towns and beaches.
Wine lovers will be delighted to know that Plettenberg Bay has its own Wine Route, which also happens to be the smallest wine-growing region in South Africa. The Plettenberg Bay wine route spans 18 wine farms and 57 kilometres along a beautiful stretch of coastline from Harkerville to the Crags. Estates in the area showcase a variety of cultivars, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Semillion, Chardonnay, Rosé, as well as award-winning Cap Classique.
We were thrilled to discover that the Crags Country Lodge is conveniently located near several of these incredible Wine Estates, making it the perfect spot from which to explore this charming wine region. Many of these estates offer a great selection of laid-back lunch options, from delectable cheese and charcuterie platters to shareable tapas-style plates.
After a day of exploring the area, the outdoor boma back at the lodge was the ideal spot to enjoy a few drinks or a coffee while soaking up the beautiful view or catching up on a bit of light reading!

The Crags Country Lodge is a fantastic place to stay. The combination of luxurious accommodation, excellent dining, and stunning natural beauty makes it a must-visit destination in the Garden Route. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle, the Crags Country Lodge is the ideal getaway. I must also mention all the amazing lodge staff; they were friendly yet professional and always ready to go the extra mile to assist us.
