Jan Harmsgat Amazing 5 Star Country Retreat

Swellendam, for most, is a pitstop en route somewhere! Well, as I have mentioned a few times, this should definitely not be the case. Swellendam should be on your travel agenda, especially with so many fabulous places to stay and experiences to enjoy. During our recent trip to Swellendam, we spent a day at Jan Harmsgat Country House.

I have stayed at the Jan Harmsgat Country House on a previous trip with my eldest daughter. On this trip, it was just Grant and I – very romantic indeed! The Country House, located on a 680-hectare working farm, is a two-hour drive from Cape Town on the R60 highway off the N2. It is the ideal spot to stay and explore Swellendam and the surrounding areas such as Robertson, Bonnievale and Ashton.

The 5-Star Guest House offers accommodation in ten newly decorated rooms. These comprise Double, Twin and Family Rooms, as well as a romantic honeymoon suite.

⁣Wining & Dining

Breakfast is included in your stay, and they have a fantastic fine-dining restaurant, Just Amy, on-site for lunch and dinner. You can also enjoy wine tasting or a relaxing picnic under the pecan nut trees. Their new Pom Pod is gorgeous, making the experience even more magical.

Guests can also enjoy a Backlands Farm Tour and enjoy a sunset picnic and wine tasting in the countryside. There are also fantastic nature reserves, hiking trails, wine farms and shops, to explore.⁣

Their recently opened Oena Day Spa is a must if you are in need of some pampering. Grant and I enjoyed a full-body massage while we were there, and it was incredible!
