During our recent trip exploring Stellenbosch, we visited Blaauwklippen for lunch at their new eatery Hamm & Uys, as well as a macaron and wine pairing.
Blaauwklippen
A visit to Stellenbosch would not be complete without a visit to Blaauwklippen. Founded in 1682, it is one of the oldest wine farms in the picturesque Stellenbosch Wine Valley.
Also well known for the Blaauwklippen Family Market, which will be reopening in November with a new seasonal focus, and a strong emphasis on local, organic and sustainable food, produce and goods.
Hamm & Uys at Blaauwklippen
Hamm & Uys is relaxed, yet elegant eatery, in the beautiful Stellenbosch countryside, offering Farm-To-Table dining. You can either Dine indoors next to a roaring fire, perfect for winter or the outside patio is the ideal spot on a balmy summer’s day. Their menu offering ranges from traditional dishes such as a Sunday Roast to local classics with a modern spin.
“Manna To The Table” – a complimentary starter consists of homemade bread, cultured farm butter, as well as a seasonal, lightly dressed salad.
Grant chose the Steak Du Jour for his mains – a perfectly cooked sirloin steak, served with hand-cut fries. I decided to try something a tad different and opted for the Fish Soup. The soup, a prawn bisque included prawns, snoek, mussels. We enjoyed our delicious lunch with fantastic estate wines.
Macaron & Wine Pairing
Instead of a traditional dessert, Grant and I enjoyed the Macaron and Wine Pairing in the Blaauwklippen tasting room.
Five estate wines, perfectly paired with five decadent macarons, make for an extremely decadent tasting journey.
A few of our favourite pairings were the MCC Zinfandel 2019, and Rose Water Macaron, the White Zinfandel and Raspberry Macaron, as well as the Zinfandel and Salted Caramel Macaron. It was an incredibly delicious experience and the perfect ending to a fantastic lunch.
The estate also offers Wine and Chocolate Pairing, Red Wine and Fudge Pairing, Wine Blending, as well as Gin Tasting.
