It is summer in Cape Town, which means longer days, warm balmy nights and the return of The Galileo Open Air Cinema. The Galileo is Cape Town’s famous outdoor movie experience, under the stars.
Galileo Open Air Cinema
The Galileo offers a line up of 117 of the greatest movies, from golden classics to creepy horrors, and everything in between. The Open Air Cinema provides the ideal setting for an unforgettable night and the perfect excuse for a date night.
The Galileo Summer Venues
Running from Wednesday to Saturday, and Sundays in December, The Galileo Open Air Cinema adds movie magic to some of the most picturesque venues. It is the perfect opportunity for movie lovers to watch their favourite movie in an outdoor venue of their choosing.
Grant and I attended the season launch at Kirstenbosch Gardens, which is one of my favourite venues. They also happened to be screening A Star is Born, which was even more amazing under the stars! The Galileo is at Kirstenbosch every Wednesday and Thursday evening this summer.
Friday’s screening is at one of four fabulous venues. These include Battery Park (V&A Waterfront), Meerendal Wine Estate (Durbanville), Central Park (Century City) and Steenberg Farm (Tokai).
Saturdays are a Winelands experience, with 20 award-winning wine estates across Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Franschhoek and Paarl forming part of the schedule.
Sundays movies, during December school holidays, take place at Kelvin Grove Club in Newlands.
Exciting Features
Kirstenbosch Gardens will be transformed into a Halloween Hotspot, with chilling decor, face painting and interactive games. Dress up in your scariest garb and stand a chance of winning a R1000 cash prize for best dressed. The Halloween screening is R180 per person and includes a backrest, blanket, sweet treat and themed decor.
Other exciting features to look forward to during The Galileo’s eighth season is the introduction of a classic Bollywood movie. In addition, their annual CSI project, treats over 300 local heroes, nominated by the public, to a special evening under the stars. Not to forget their birthday week offering, which allows free entry to any patron’s during their birthdays week.
