On a recent trip to the Breedekloof area, I was fortunate to spend the night at the luxurious Bosjes Die Skuur Guesthouse.
Bosjes Die Skuur Guesthouse
Bosjes Farm, located at the foot of the Waaihoek Mountain, in the Breede Valley, is home to the Bosjes Chapel, Bosjes Kombuis, The Tea Garden and Die Skuur Guesthouse.
This popular wedding venue attracts brides from near and far, making their guesthouse the ideal spot to accommodate the bridal party.
On a recent media trip to taste a bespoke range of Bosjes Wines, I spent the night in one of the gorgeous luxury suites at Die Skuur Guesthouse.
Farmstyle Luxury
Die Skuur Guesthouse, located in the cleverly converted barn, offers luxurious farm style accommodation. It is perfect for a couples getaway, large families or, as I mentioned bridal parties.
The five luxury suites, each have ensuite bathrooms. Three of the suites provide double accommodation and have queen size beds and a fireplace; the fourth has twin beds and no fireplace.
A fifth suite is the family room, which has a queen bed, a fireplace, as well as a loft with a bunk and a single bed. The loft sleeps three and has a shower.
Decor & Design
Stunning interiors at Die Skuur, created by Liam Mooney, take inspiration from the surrounding veldt. The contemporary style guesthouse embraces clean lines, as well as celebrating the natural elements of the surrounding area. Although understated, the decor is anything but boring, with striking pops of colour.
Using only high-end furnishings and fabrics we created a calm and inviting environment for visitors to the Wine Farm. ~ Liam Mooney
Not only was homage paid to the natural environment but there was also particular attention paid to the Cape Dutch heritage of the building, originally built as horse stables in the 18th century. Mooney incorporated many of the traditional motifs in the creation of this design.
Liam Mooney also decorated the “voorkamer” in the original manor house. The manor house can be used for small day conferences, as well as private boardroom style meetings.
Dining at Bosjes
Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast, served in the communal area, which also has a fireplace. Bosjes Kombuis restaurant, where we enjoyed our wine paired lunch, is open for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday.
For dinner, guests can either explore restaurants in the area or pre-order a traditional home-cooked meal from Bosjes Kombuis.
Things To Do
During winter spend time curled up next to a roaring fire, with a beverage of your choice, and a board game or good book. In the hotter summer months, the refreshing pool is the ideal place to relax. It was a bit chilly for a swim during my stay, with the Waaihoek mountain covered in snow.
If you are feeling more energetic, why not take a walk or a hike in the Bergkamp. You may also spot some tame game animals, such as Bontebok, zebra and ostrich. For the more adventurous guests, there are biking trails, as well as zip lining in the area.
Food and wine lovers can explore the visit the 27 wineries in the area or dine at one of the bespoke restaurants.
