Backsberg Cellars

Situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, you will find Backsberg nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains. The estate is on the Klapmuts Road between Paarl and Franschhoek.

I have always really enjoyed Backsberg wines with their Pinotage and Pinotage Rosé being among my favourites. Not only are their wines delicious they are also reasonable.

Last year their maiden Pinotage Rosé bagged a double gold at the Rosé Rocks Competition. At the 2018 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, they received the Grande Roche Trophy for The Best White Blend. As well as receiving a gold medal, Backsberg also ranked within the Top 5 Producers overall.

As well as producing award-winning wine, in 2006, Backsberg was certified carbon neutral, and today, as WWF Conservation Champion, they continue their sustainable approach to farming. The estate boasts a restaurant, tasting room, as well as various venue options including the Historic Vat Cellar and magnificent gardens.

Backsberg, however, is based in the Western Cape, and the prize does not include transport to Cape Town or the estate, so the winner will need to visit the farm to enjoy the chocolate and wine pairing.
