I recently wrote a review on the reopening of the Lanzerac Hotel, in Stellenbosch. Today I am sharing a bit more about the new Lanzerac Manor Kitchen Restaurant, which officially opened its doors on the 1st of July 2018.
Manor Kitchen Restaurant Lanzerac Hotel
After a devastating fire in 2017, the Lanzerac Hotel underwent extensive restoration. This provided an opportunity not only to restore but also to create new spaces. During this time, the creation of the Manor Kitchen Restaurant was one of the exciting new projects they undertook. If you have stayed or dined at Lanzerac before, you may remember their previous eatery, the Governors Hall Restaurant. The restaurant was somewhat austere and the decor dated, which was one of the main reasons for a new modernised space.
The Restaurant
The new Manor Kitchen Restaurant, is a stunning, much more contemporary space than its predecessor, with an abundance of glass and natural light flooding the room. I could not stop oohing and aahing when we walked in! The restaurant is the epitome of sophisticated elegance. I particularly love the luxurious upholstery in grey tones, with pops of citrine, as well as the stunning chandelier.
Another great feature is the large leaded windows, which separate the dining area from the kitchen, allowing diners a glimpse of the creative culinary process.
The Chef

Executive Chef, Stephen Fraser heads up the team at the Manor Kitchen restaurant. Stephen who originally hails from Wales is exceptionally expressive when he talks about food, a testament to how hugely passionate he is about his craft. His idea for the new restaurant is “classical dishes reimagined”, essentially giving traditional recipes a new lease on life.
On The Menu
The Manor Kitchen serves breakfast and dinner Monday to Sunday, as well as Sunday lunch. Guests can start their day off right, with a sumptuous buffet breakfast, coffee or tea and perhaps a glass or two of bubbles.
The dinner menu, as I mentioned offers a selection of classic dishes reimagined with contemporary influences, utilising only the very best local, seasonal ingredients.
When we stayed over on our recent visit to the hotel, we were treated to a delicious dinner, at the Manor Kitchen. Below are the mouth-watering dishes we enjoyed.
Starters
My starter was a delicious Collection of Cauliflower, with Beetroot gnocchi, sesame granola, Karoo Williston, rocket, orange cream.
Grant decided on Confit Duck Leg Salad, with whipped Dijon mousse, pickled onion, shimeji mushrooms, herbs. It was such a fresh and fantastic combination of flavours.
Mains
For mains, I chose the Fillet of Aged Beef, with braised brisket, pommes Anna, porcini mushroom, milk-poached onion. It was as delicious as it looked. The beef was wonderful, but I must make special mention of the extremely morish pommes Anna.
Grant being a lover of Pork Belly went with the Citrus Cured Pork Belly. Beautifully cooked Pork served with chardonnay, barley risotto, poached pear, leeks, crisp sage – amazing!
Dessert
My dessert of Whiskey, Honey and Raspberry Soufflé, with white chocolate, lavender cream, toasted oats, raspberry compote, was fabulous. This dessert was the highlight of the meal for me.
Grant’s Vegan Baked Cheesecake, was also heavenly. Such classic flavours with a modern spin. The blueberry jelly, coconut biscuit, blueberry ice cream, orange marshmallow, were a delight.
What a fantastic meal, paired with equally outstanding Lanzerac Wine! A visit to the Manor Kitchen restaurant comes highly recommended, I assure you, you will not be disappointed.
