South Africa’s, well-known brand, Four Cousins Wine recently popped the cork on a significant milestone – its 18th birthday! Along with celebrating this grand occasion, Four Cousins has also undergone a makeover, further enhancing its reputation as the “wine-lovers” favourite.
Four Cousins Wine
The makeover applies to both it’s famous sparkling, as well as the still wine ranges. The new packaging was designed to highlight the Four Cousins quality, style and authenticity. It also emphasizes the history of the brand.
“It’s very humbling the way Four Cousins has been embraced by South Africans, whether in the traditional Cape Wine region, Soweto and Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, universities and the younger consumer,” says Phillip Retief, CEO of Van Loveren Family Vineyards. “People identify with the Four Cousins family, even referring to themselves as the 5th Cousin. Four Cousins, in essence, stands for – friendship, family and the memories we hold dear.”
SA’s Biggest-selling Bottled Wine Brand
Four Cousins Wine is South Africas biggest-selling bottled wine brand. The brands’ success is largely owed to the authenticity of their backstory. A real-life story of the Four Cousins is what has set this brand apart.
It was in the mid-1990s that Hennie, Neil, Bussell and Phillip together, after completing their studies and joined the family farm, Van Loveren Vineyards. Van Loveren is near the Western Cape town of Robertson.
In 2000, the foursome started making wine, which they knew they had to share. Investing all the had into this exciting new venture, the cousins even adding their faces to the label as a personal endorsement, and launched the Four Cousins brand.
Their vision for the brand was to develop a range of wine that spoke to a large, diverse, as well as mostly untapped market. Although the wine they produced was sweeter in style, the quality was excellent.
Today, Four Cousins Wine is enjoyed in more than 62 countries and will hopefully reach even further afield following the new makeover.
