Calling all wine lovers. Join in the fun and festivities at Wacky Wine Weekend 2018. The festival, proudly hosted by Robertson Wine Valley, in partnership with Cape Talk, will take place from 31st May to 3rd June 2018. Escape to the country and experience the wonders of the Roberston Wine Valley.
Wacky Wine Weekend 2018
The picturesque Robertson Wine Valley lies along a section of Route 62, which covers the Ashton/Montagu/Bonnievale area, in addition to Robertson and McGregor. This region alone, boasts more than 48 wineries, making it a wine lovers paradise. Below you will find out what to expect at this year’s Wacky Wine Weekend, as well as a chance to Win Two Tickets!
Sip & Savour
Spend the Wacky Wine Weekend 2018 sipping and savouring award-winning wines and enjoy a variety of wine infused experiences. Enjoy cellar tours, barrel tastings, pairings, as well as interactive tastings by the fabulous winemakers.
Discover Your Inner Winemaker
Get in touch with your inner winemaker! Blend your own unique wine creation, or disgorge a bottle of Methode Cap Classique. Improve your tasting knowledge with master wine tasting courses by the Cape Wine Academy; aimed at the novice, adventurous, as well as the accomplished wine connoisseur. There will also be a chance to experience the intricate winemaking process while discovering the story behind the bottle. Enjoy a diverse variety of wine pairings at the festival, explore historical underground cellars, boutique wine farms and family-owned estates.
Adventure Lovers
For the adventure lovers, there will be a host of fun outdoor activities which include a motorbike race, by Funduro. Take the opportunity to breathe a bit of fresh country air, take a hike in the valley or join the scenic MTB challenge through the vineyards.
Family-friendly Fun
The festival provides entertainment for all ages. Why not create a family picnic basket? Make your selection from a variety of local olives, delicious cheeses, charcuterie and preserves from the delis. Other family-friendly activities include a relaxing boat cruise down the Breede River, games on the lawn and giant chess, or unleash your inner cowboy with a mechanical bull ride.
The Magic of The Winelands
Revel in the romance and magic that the country offers during winter. Think candlelit wine tasting, in an underground cellar, wine pairing with music and art or a romantic river cruise, with a picnic basket, filled with delicious goodies and a bottle of wine. If that is not enough, then end your day with dinner and dancing under the stars or a glass of red wine fireside.
Culinary Delights
Food lovers will be in their element, with delicious Winemaker’s Dinners, ranging from Braai and Wine experiences to Dinner amongst the vineyards. Start the day off right with a hearty farm-style breakfast. Enjoy a taste of the country, with warming soups, roosterkoeke, as well as potjies on offer. Other culinary delights include olive oil and olives tastings, food and wine pairings, which include citrus delights, local preserves and chocolate, to soup and wine pairings. Last but not least celebrate with Methode Cap Classique and oysters, as well as locally crafted brandies and liqueurs.
Explore Route 62
Escape the city and head out to the country to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Take a road trip and explore Route 62, it is the perfect excuse for a getaway or road trip with family and friends. There are a host of fantastic places to visit and stay while you are in the area.
Drink Responsibly
Please be responsible and do not drink and drive! Either decide on a designated driver or make use of the transport companies that The Robertson Wine Valley has partnered with, to ensure the use of wine in a responsible manner. Book your transport in advance, or book a taxi on the weekend. You can also make use of the shuttle service. Event Programme & Booking Details
For a full list of participating wineries and tourism establishments, please consult the Wacky Wine Weekend 2018 Programme. Participating wineries or tourism establishment will host their own activities on the weekend, over and above the coupon tastings. Most activities are included in your passport, but some are pay-as-you-go. Bookings and payments are made directly with each host.
Tickets for the festival are
