I know there are wine lovers out there who would question why alcohol-free wine? Well, there are those who choose not to drink wine for a variety of reasons but still enjoy joining in the festivities. Over the past six months, I have discovered quality alcohol-free wine, as well as a de-alcoholised white wine, which I thought I would share with you.
Alcohol-Free Wine and Bubbly
Although low-alcohol wines have become increasingly popular over the last few years, a new trend emerging sees ceratin consumers opting for alcohol-free beverages. My only issue with most non-alcoholic wine, is that it tends to be too sweet for my taste. Interestingly the de-alcoholised white wine I tasted is dry and fruity, not sweet at all.
The other thing I have noticed with many of the alcohol-free sparkling wines is the new and improved packaging and branding. Many of wine farms have upped their game and designed elegant, stylish packaging, as well as having pop-cork tops. Ultimately, giving the wine a look and feel of traditional bubbly.
Lautus Savvy White
Lautus Savvy White is South Africa’s very first de-alcoholised wine. Purposefully crafted to not only deliver the best of the grape but to do so in the healthiest way possible.
Lautus, produced using traditional methods, undergoes an additional phase just before bottling. A unique spinning technique is used to remove the “booze” element without eliminating the flavour of the grape. This new guilt-free wine is big on flavour but low in calories (52 kJ per 100ml). Containing less than 0,5% alcohol by volume, which is the same trace amount you will find in two-day-old orange juice, making it more health friendly.
The wine delivers aromas of gooseberry, capsicum and citrus. On the palate you can expect tropical fruit and lime flavours, finishing with a fresh acidity and lingering aftertaste.
Lautus Savvy White is ideal for mums, pregnant women, health nuts, designated drivers and weight-watchers too.
Lautus De-Alcoholised Savvy White 750ml available from Woolworths RRP 53.45
Zari Sparkling Grape
Zari Sparkling Grape juice is a premium non-alcoholic bubbly from the Western Cape’s Robertson region. The Zari Noble Ruby Red and Royale Gold White are produced from 100% single cultivar Cape Muscat grape.
The Zari flagship pop-top bubbly has made its mark as the perfect non-alcoholic beverage, to add glamour and sparkle to any celebration. Last year saw the launch of an equally aspirational lifestyle screw top variant. Also sporting new designer packaging and sexy branding, bringing the non-alcohol beverage on a par with many of the most elegant South African wines for special occasions.
Zari Non-Alc Sparkling Lifestyle Cap RRP 55.00 and Zari Non-Alc Sparkling Cork Top RRP 75.00.
Papillon Alcohol-Free
The Papillon alcohol-free range, recently given a fresh new look, still encapsulates the essence of sun-kissed grapes. Papillon Non-alcoholic Sparkling White is produced from fruity, sweet white Muscadel grapes. It is excellent as an aperitif, but pairs brilliantly with fruit and desserts.
Papillon Non-alcoholic Blush is a delightful sparkling rose-coloured grape juice, with festive flavours of fresh berries and candy floss. Blush is fruity and sweet and produced from red Muscadel fruit. It is refreshing on its own but will highlight flavours in fruit, desserts, especially chocolate.
The non-alcoholic Papillon Sparkling White and Sparkling Blush sell for between R44.99 and R49.99.

Fiona have you found any bubbly that is not sweet and tastes like Grapetiser? I would love to find a Brut non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
Fiona Rossiter says
Hi Leon, sadly I have not yet found a dry non-alcoholic sparkling wine in SA. I will make it my mission to find out if there are perhaps any on the cards. A few of wine estates have ventured into a still dry white non-alcoholic, so perhaps this is the next step. I will let you know if I come across anything. Kind regards Fiona

Hi Fiona,
We are visiting your part of the world from the UK in March. My husband will be driving every day so the information here has been really useful and we will look out for the Lautus and will keep our fingers crossed for news of a dry sparkling variety.
Many thanks.

Can you please provide me with the price list of your non alcoholic wine as well as your address. Are you based in Gauteng ?..

Good day
Also looking at your products as well as price list and where to purchase it.
Dennis says
Inah is not de alcoholised wine, its very sweet grape juice. (non alocholic). There is a big difference between the two. De alcoholised wine, is wine that has its alcohol removed. Non alocholic wine (grape juice) is just that., its juice. You cannot call it Cab sav or shiraz, since those are only allowed to be put on wine bottles (that contains alochol) wine is not wine if it does not have alcohol.
