I don’t think that many of us thought we would see the day when choosing a getaway destination, would be dependant on being able to soak in a hot bath or take a 10-minute shower! However, this is our reality, as Cape Town faces the worst drought in history! Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves why not plan a fun, Water-Smart #MINIgetaway, inspired by MINI and Getaway?
Guilt-free Water #MINIGetaway
Water restrictions have changed the way we live and how we think about water, with many of us still dreading the thought of Day Zero! “D-Day” may have been pushed back but think it is still never too far from our thoughts. I am not sure about you, but I have become very creative in my water saving methods. Buckets in the showers, bowls in the basins, collecting grey water, dry-shampoo and buying endless bottles of mineral water, have all become part of how we live.
By doing all these things to save water, we have done a great job to reduce our overall water consumption. Sadly this is not enough, as we are still restricted to 50 litres per person, per day. So shower time must be kept to a minimum, and for the foreseeable future, bathing is but a distant memory.
MINI Water Smart Getaways
Although the water situation in the Cape is dire, we are still able to escape to other areas and enjoy this very scarce commodity. With this in mind, MINI has partnered with Getaway to bring us a range of Water-Smart Getaways. What a great idea! Jumping in your car and venturing off on a waterfilled adventure does sound like lots of fun.
Heavenly Bath-Soaking Getaways
The Water-Smart Getaway that caught my eye is a Heavenly Bath-Soaking Getaways. For me, not being able to soak in a hot bath has been one of the worst parts of water restrictions. Now, the first thing I check when I book a trip is can I whether I can bath or not. Let’s face it there is nothing more relaxing than a bubble bath, with a glass of wine to sip and a good book to read.
I love the fact that, not only will I have the pleasure of escaping the city, and having a leisurely bath but I will also save water! By enjoying a Bath-Soaking Getaway, I will save the city approximately 100 litres of water. And a Water-Smart weekend away with my hubby is estimated to save Cape Town around 770 litres of water. In essence, it is a win, win and I get to take a bath or two.
Other Water-Smart Getaways
All the MINI Water-Smart Getaways are situated in ‘water safe zones,’ just outside of Cape Town. A few of the other Getaways to choose from are: ‘10 Magnificent Hair-Washing Getaways,’ ‘7 Glorious Car-Washing Getaways,’ and ‘12 Guilt-Free Laundry Load Getaways”.
Water-Smart Getaways are the perfect excuse to escape the city, explore and go on an adventure and there’s no better vehicle to do the job than a MINI Countryman. Equipped with four-wheel drive and ruggedly handsome design, the MINI Countryman is the ultimate all-rounder and will give you plenty of water-saving stories to tell.
Help Boost Tourism
The Cape Town water crisis has also negatively affected tourism, with many travellers cancelling their trips. Tourism in South Africa is a large part of our economy, estimated to be worth more than R400 billion rand. By booking a Water-Smart Getaway, you can do your bit to help boost tourism in SA. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to get out of town and do some exploring, now is your perfect opportunity. You can treat yourself to all the water indulgences you’ve been dreaming of, as well as help Cape Town save lots of water. Book a trip, get in your car and be a tourist in your province. You know you want to.
