A feature I wrote on the Top 10 Hotels in South Africa, was very well received, which gave me the idea of creating something similar for the individual cities in SA. I am starting with the Top 10 Hotels in Cape Town, which includes Southern Suburbs and Atlantic Seaboard.
Top 10 Hotels in Cape Town
As I mentioned in my list of the Top 10 hotels in South Africa, some of the hotels listed, I have had the pleasure of visiting, while a few are still on my bucket list! All the hotels featured offer a degree of luxury, as well as welcoming hospitality. The majority of the hotels in my Top 10 Hotels in Cape Town are not over the top expensive. Many of them also offer great “low season” packages.
African Pride 15 On Orange Hotel– CBD
15 on Orange Hotel oozes with luxurious finishes and offers nothing but the highest standard of service. Accommodation and facilities have a unique African style. The luxurious hotel is located a stones-throw from the bustling Cape Town CBD, making it a perfect base to explore the city. Table Mountain and the Waterfront are mere minutes away from the hotel making this a prime location.
The Taj – CBD
While I have yet to stay at the Taj, I have had the pleasure of enjoying their sumptuous Afternoon Tea, as well as a tour of the hotel. If I do have the opportunity to stay at the Taj, I have my sights set on The Presidential Suite, which is the epitome of luxury. The suite even has a private massage room!
The Westin – CBD
Grant and I have stayed at quite a few hotels and boutique hotels in the city, but our experience at the Westin Cape Town was one of our favourite City Escapes! We love the convenience of being able to walk to the nearest pub or restaurant and having the V&A Waterfront on your doorstep, is a definite plus!
The Westin Cape Town has 483 guest rooms and suites. The rooms are elegantly appointed and boast all the modern conveniences one can expect from a luxury city hotel. The views of Cape Town will amaze you, and their signature Heavenly Bed is comfort at its very best!
The Radisson Blu – Cape Town Waterfront
The Radisson Blu Hotel, situated on the picturesque waterfront of Cape Town, has the iconic Table Mountain as a backdrop. It is a heartbeat away from Cape Town’s CBD, with The Cape Town International Convention Centre only five minutes away. The famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, which has a vast selection of Shops and Restaurants, is a leisurely stroll (or complimentary shuttle), from the hotel. A short trip also gets you to some of Africa’s most beautiful beaches. Again this hotel is all about location, location, location!
Guests can choose from 177 elegantly designed guest rooms, including 11 Two Bedroom suites and 71 Business-Class rooms. These rooms all have private balconies and spectacular views. Additionally, there are 9 Superior rooms and 86 Non-Sea Facing Standard Rooms.
POD Camps Bay
POD Camps Bay is at the top of my list of places to stay in Camps Bay. I have seen quite a bit of hype about it on social media recently, and I like what I am seeing. This unique boutique hotel offers a cocoon-like ambience, with unrivalled luxury and privacy. POD Camps Bay strikes the perfect balance between relaxation and refinement.
Guests can choose from seventeen rooms. Each room is uniquely decorated, boasting modern, clean lines, as well as “green architecture”, perfectly complemented by the tranquillity of the natural surroundings.
Tintswalo Lodge Atlantic Seaboard
A stay at Tintswalo Atlantic is a truly magical experience! From the luxurious suites, delicious food and wine and most memorably, the beautiful views and epic sunsets, it surpassed my highest expectations.
Their luxury suites each have a unique theme and design, paying homage to their stunning surroundings. Tintswalo, a haven of peace and tranquillity, is the perfect place to relax and escape from it all. The hotel is ideally located if you would like to explore the peninsula. Take a day trip to Cape Point to see the sights or venture to the V&A Waterfront for a spot of retail therapy.
Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa – Atlantic Seaboard
I have eaten dinner and high tea at the Twelve Apostles, as well as enjoying a fantastic Spa Treatment but a night or two at the hotel is still on my bucket list. The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, as with Tintswalo, has the most magnificent location, nestled between majestic mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.
Guests can choose from 55 deluxe guest rooms and 15 luxurious suites. For me, the hardest part would be deciding whether to overlook the mountains or the sea. Whichever direction you face, the views are stunning. Interiors are an eclectic mix of contemporary African style and classic European comfort. At The Twelve Apostles, every room includes 24-hour room service, individual air conditioning, entertainment centres with DVD, and plush bathrobes and slippers.
The Vineyard Hotel – Newlands
The Vineyard Hotel, in Newlands, is located on a stunning 7-acre riverside garden estate on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. What was a country cottage, built among vineyards by legendary Georgian, Lady Anne Barnard, is today a 211 room luxury hotel. Luxury en-suite accommodation located across the estate, include Standard doubles and Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, Suites and Cottages.
The hotel also boasts a fantastic selection of dining venues, among which Myoga Restaurant is a personal favourite.
Alphen Boutique Hotel – Constantia Valley
Last year we spent a night at Alphen Boutique Hotel, located in the heart of the Constantia Valley, the hotel lived up to and exceeded all our expectations. Service standards are incredibly high, and we found the staff friendly, professional and willing to go the extra mile. I think the main draw for me is the old world, glamorous style of the hotel. While many five-star hotels are incredibly modern, the Alphen pays homage to elegance and style of a bygone era.
The Alphen Hotel offers luxury accommodation in three traditional heritage manor houses. Expansive, lush gardens and the Constantiaberg mountains form the perfect setting for this haven of luxury and tranquillity.
As well as stunning accommodation, the hotel offers on-site dining at Blanko Restuarant and La Belle Bistro & Bakery. There is also the Rose Bar Outdoor Garden Lounge, which is a great spot for pre-dinner drinks or afternoon cocktails.
Steenberg Hotel – Constantia Valley
The Steenberg Hotel is one of my favourite hotels in Cape Town. The hotel, nestled at the foot of the Steenberg Mountain, on the Steenberg Estate, forms part of the Constantia Wine Route. Service standards at the hotel are first-class, and nothing is too much trouble. The decor is sophisticated elegance at its best.
Steenberg Hotel boasts 24 guest rooms. These include beautiful heritage suites, contemporary premier rooms, family rooms and the charm of sunny barn rooms, as well as those in the original Manor House.
My Top 10 Hotels in Cape Town Checklist
It was quite difficult to select my Top 10 Hotels in Cape Town, as there are so many fabulous Cape Town Hotels to consider. The main criteria I look at when making my selection are location, interiors/architecture, service, and food and wine. I also believe that the hotel’s facilities and guest offerings factor into the overall appeal. What are your favourite hotels in Cape Town? Loved this! Having stayed at or visited a few I approve of the list – and with you on POD, think we need to arrange a site visit!

I found that if you’re looking for great accommodation then https://www.capetowngetaways.com is one of the best choices to look at seeing as their pricing is on par with various other sites like Airbnb, LekkeSlaap and the likes. They have various spaces across Cape Town where properties can be rented so it’s worth taking a look at. I love the list you’ve set out and expect to see more like these in the future!
Great article!
