Gone are the days where a microwave is merely a device to heat food. As with most technology, things keep getting “smarter”, easier to use and the more bells and whistles, the better! Enter the New LG NEOCHEF Microwave Oven, with Smart Inverter Technology.
LG NeoChef Microwave
Like most people, I have only ever really used my microwave to heat or defrost food. When LG emailed wanting to send me their New LG NEOCHEF™ Microwave to review I was interested to find out set it apart from the crowd.

The new LG NEOCHEF Microwave may have all the technical bells and whistles, but it is anything but flashy. The minimalistic design will sit well in any modern kitchen, adding a touch of class.
Ergonomics are at the heart of the NeoChef design. It has a unified tempered glass front, refined matte exterior and a rounded pocket-style handle.

Function
The NEOCHEF™ boasts a range of hygiene-enhancing features including Anti-Bacterial EasyClean™, which helps users keep their ovens clean and fresh. The Anti-Bacterial EasyClean Coating eliminates up to 99.99 percent of harmful bacteria.
The simple touch controls make operating the microwave child’s play, and the dial ensures precise control.
LG’s unique Smart Inverter ensures that food is cooked and defrosted evenly. The ability to adjust Power between 300 and 1,200 watts also helps to preserve nutrients and lock in flavour. There is also a preprogrammed Inverter Menu, which will automatically cook your food, once you have selected the program and number of items.
In addition to traditional microwave cooking, the convection technology, serves as a second oven. You can also fry foods or even ferment home-made yoghurt.
Other convenience-enhancing features include the innovative, hexagonal turntable, with six support points, which helps prevent spilling during cooking. The energy efficient interior LED lamp is three times brighter and more energy efficient than conventional models.
Review
To test out my new convection microwave, I decided to get creative and bake something. Keeping it relatively simple I opted for an easy-to-make chocolate pudding recipe.
After mixing the ingredients, and pouring into ramekins, I placed the puddings in the microwave on the low wire rack. I then baked them on the convection function, at 170ºc for approximately 30 minutes. I followed the instructions laid out in the manual, which is relatively straightforward. The only thing I was a bit unsure of, was whether I needed to preheat the oven first.
All-in-all the puddings turned out ok for my first attempt at baking in the NeoChef, slightly overcooked but edible. I think I will need to investigate a bit more about preheating the oven and adjust the cooking time.
I have also made toasted cheese which was super easy to do, as well as cooking/steaming veggies. The next thing I would like to attempt is a roast chicken. I will let you know how that goes.

Verdict
The LG NeoChef Microwave is easy to use, offers fantastic features and looks great in my kitchen. The fact that it is compact means that it will fit into the tiniest kitchen. Making it ideal if you do not have space for a conventional oven but would still like to bake and grill. It’s also the bomb when it comes to reheating and defrosting. Food is heated evenly and quickly. Defrosting is also done evenly, which means you do not get cooked bits on the edges, which is the case with most microwaves.
My overall verdict is definite thumbs up and I have only scratched the surface of what it is capable of. While the appliance is not cheap, you are certainly getting what you pay for, as far as technology goes.
