Winter has hit Cape Town, and I am sure you would agree, that you would rather be somewhere warm and sunny. I would much Rather Be In Mauritius, sipping cocktails in the sun, while staring out at the ocean!
I’d Rather be in Mauritius
Mauritius is one of the places I am dying to visit again soon. We took our girls there when they were quite a bit younger, and we all had a blast. It is one of my favourite beach destinations, but it is so much more than that.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing better than lazing on a sunlounger, reading a good book and sipping on a G&T, but we also love to take the time to explore the places we visit.
Experience Mauritius
For us, I think the highlight of our trip was visiting the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens, in Pamplemousses. One of the main attractions in the Gardens is the pond filled with the most beautiful Giant Water Lilies. Another great spot for nature lovers is the Black River Gorges National Park. The 6,574-hectare natural reserve offers visitors beautiful hiking trails in the indigenous forests and a variety of wildlife.
Next, on my list of places, I would recommend exploring is Port Louis. It can be a bit overwhelming and busy, for a first-time visitor, especially if you have been relaxing on the beach but it is worth a trip. The Central Market in Port Louis is popular amongst locals and tourists. It is a great place to sample local delicacies and shop for keepsakes to remember your trip. If you would like to brush up on the history of the Island, then there are a variety of museums, in the area, to explore.
Naturally, being a beach destination spending time out on the water is a must! Water sports for the adventure seeker, as well as snorkeling and diving, are an excellent way to spend the day. A trip to Blue Bay Marine Park, in a glass bottom boat, is the best possible way other than snorkeling to appreciate the incredible marine life and unique coral gardens.
Mauritius is a great destination for both families and couples! Kids have such fun in the kids club, while mom and dad relax poolside or on the beach – sounds like heaven don’t you think! Resorts offer a variety of experiences and can often tailor a package to your exact needs.
