Grant and I have toyed with the idea of installing aircon in our bedroom, for some time now, as it tends to become an inferno in summer. Unfortunately, other items have become more of a priority. When I was sent the GMC – Heating and cooling Portable Airconditioner to review at the end of last year, I was super excited to see how much difference it would make to our overheating issue.
GMC Aircon Review
The GMCP12R is a cooling and heating portable air conditioner. It is super easy to use as it offers a plug & play solution, which requires no additional assembly or tools. It is that simple! The powerful three-speed fan works its magic to cool or heat your room of choice.
We were hoping to use the aircon in our bedroom, but due to the mezzanine design, the windows are too high to accommodate the exhaust pipe. Fear not we were able to set it up in our ensuite, which luckily has a power point. As our ensuite bathroom does not have a ceiling, the cold air can flow freely into the bedroom area.
Function
The GMC Aircon is easy to program and has a large LCD. Soft-touch keypads allow you to set the temperature reading to either degree Celsius, or Fahrenheit. There is also a 24-hour timer and clock – this will enable you to activate the cooling or heating system according to your settings stored in the onboard memory. You are also able to control the unit with a handy remote control.
The top-air discharge system is quiet and powerful enough to allow for temperature control of any medium to large sized room or office space. It has an independent humidifier and self-evaporating system, with anti-bacterial technology that cleans the air as it cools or heats it, making it a safer, more comfortable living environment. It also offers Eco-Friendly cooling, with no CFC’s.
Included with the unit is a 1.5m exhaust hose, as well as a window slider and cover. Unfortunately, due to the configuration of our windows, we are not able to use the slider attachments.
Form
I will admit that I was concerned about how the aircon would sit within the style of our home but the sleek modern design fits comfortably into the space. The compact design also allows the unit to sit neatly in even the smallest of rooms.
The aircon has four castors making it fully portable and able to roll smoothly from space to space.
Verdict
As I mentioned, the GMC Aircon is easy to install and program. It is perfect even for the most technically challenged person. You can set the unit ahead of time with a 24-hour timer, making it super convenient. Having a remote is also an advantageous feature. The castors make the aircon portable and easy to roll from room to room. A significant concern for us when running an air conditioner is the electricity consumption, but we have found it to be somewhat efficient.
Overall and most importantly the aircon does the job it is intended to do, which is to keep us cool, especially in the heat we have been experiencing! Getting ready to go out in summer has never been better! I no longer look like a tomato when I leave the house!
