L’Ormarins MCC Tasting at Anthonij Rupert

You may recall a recent post I did on the Franschhoek MCC Route – if not pop over and have a read. One of the tantalising tastings you can enjoy on this route is the L’Ormarins MCC Flight, at Anthonij Rupert Wyne.

L’Ormarins MCC Tasting

L’Ormarins is the main estate in the Anthonij Rupert Wyne portfolio and situated in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley. The farm has a combination of both low-lying land and moderate-to-steep slopes. In 2011 the property located to the east of L’Ormarins, which belonged to Graham Beck, was purchased and now forms part of the L’Ormarins vineyards. You could not ask for a better setting for an MCC tasting.

After a stroll through the Estate’s beautiful rose garden, we settled on the patio of the Manor House, overlooking the beautifully manicured gardens. The setting for our MCC Tasting could not have been more breathtaking!

L'Ormarins MCC

Our MCC Flight consisted of the L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs, the Brut NV and the vintage Brut Rosé. The Blanc de Blancs is the latest addition to the MCC range, released just in time for the festive season.

L’Ormarins Blanc de Blancs 2012

Tasting notes suggest a lively fine mousse, with bright and zesty lemon aromas tinged with subtle oyster shell and sourdough bread yeastiness, limestone and a faint hint of caramel. This wine has a rich, well-rounded complexity while maintaining a fresh and a rather zesty mouthfeel. There is a lovely lingering, rather tangy, aftertaste on the palate. As far as higher-end MCC’s go, I would rate the Blanc de Blancs as a premium wine at a reasonable price. The limited release Blanc de Blancs MCC is available directly from the Tasting Room or online from Cybercellar at R249 per bottle.

L’Ormarins Brut Rosé 2013

As you will probably know by now, I am particularly partial to a Brut Rosé and the L’Ormarins Rosé is no exception! The first appeal of this wine is the gorgeous pale salmon colour. I love the mouthfeel, which is wonderfully lively, with crisp fruit flavours on the palate. From the first sip, I knew that this MCC would be a firm favourite this festive season! Available directly from the Tasting Room or online from Cybercellar in a gift box at R209 per bottle.

L’Ormarins Brut Classique NV

The Brut Classic is an easy-drinking bubbly, which is perfect for long summer lunches. It is an elegant and lively wine, rich in minerality, with hints of buttery brioche and fresh citrus. Chardonnay grapes yield a fresh lime character, accentuated by the high natural acidity and Pinot Noir grapes provide a delicate perfume. Available directly from the Tasting Room or online from Cybercellar in a gift box at R139 per bottle.

Not only are the L’Ormarins MCC’s elegant and sophisticated on the palate but the packaging is particularly beautiful and they make the most gorgeous gifts!

Terra Del Capo

After our MCC Tasting, the wine tram dropped us off at the Terra del Capo Tasting Room, situated at the entrance to the Estate. Awaiting us was wine tasting followed by a delicious Antipasti lunch, paired with Terra del Capo wine. Our Italian inspired lunch included a wonderful Charcuterie Platter, Zucchini Fries with Garlic Aioli and Deep-fried Calamari. My favourite dish was the vibrant Peach and Plum Caprese Salad.

Conclusion

Our recent visits to the Anthonij Rupert Estate have included the Protea Party, the Shiraz and Charcuterie Event, as well as the MCC Tasting, all in the most stunning setting. Next is a trip to the Motor Museum, where enthusiasts can indulge in 100 years of motoring history. The museum houses a unique and exciting collection of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and memorabilia in the magnificent location of L’Ormarins.
