Last week I shared a few of my photographs from our family trip to Thailand, and as promised, today I am sharing my Koh Samui photos. Some of my readers have asked for a few more details regarding where we went etc. So I thought I would give you a brief idea of some of our adventures on Koh Samui!
Thailand Travel Koh Samui Adventures
Arriving in Bangkok after a rather long journey, we had a 1-hour layover before we boarded a plane to Koh Samui. Koh Samui is an island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus, in Thailand. It is located close to the mainland town of Surat Thani. When I planned the trip, we decided we would visit the smaller island of Samui first and then venture on to Phuket.
The Samui airport is quaint, and it hardly looked like an airport at all! The open-sided island bus which transported us from the aircraft to the terminal building was all levels of fun.
Samui Beach Village
After a somewhat lengthy shuttle from the airport in Samui, we arrived at the Samui Beach Village at 9 am – only to discover that because of the time difference and our flight times we were not able to check into our Villa until 2 pm, the official check-in time. We were all tired, hot and sticky, in dire need of a shower and now very grumpy! I guess you learn these travel lessons the hard way!
Exploring Koh Samui
We did quite a bit of exploring while on Koh Samui, initially via taxi and the resort shuttle service. The taxi drivers are quite good, but I highly recommend you negotiate your rate, before you set foot in the taxi. Negotiation is not something we as Westerners often do, but we were pros in no time!
Nikki Beach
After a few days on the island, we decided to hire our own car and do a bit more site-seeing further up the coast. During one of our day trips, we happened upon Nikki Beach, a rather prestigious, luxury beach club resort, which you can see above. Something out of the “Life Styles of the Rich & Famous”!
4 Monkeys Coffee Bar
Another great spot we were introduced to in Samui, by Lauren from The Travel Manuel, is the 4 Monkeys Coffee Bar – a coffee bar with the most stunning view. They make the most delicious ice coffee. I was so desperate to drink it I forgot to take a photograph!
For those of you considering a trip to Samui, another resort which we liked the look of was Rocky’s Resort. Unfortunately, when I planned our trip, it was already fully booked.
That concludes our Thailand Travel Adventures for this week! Be sure to check back next week for more in this series!

We went to Thailand last year and it was amazing. We spent our last week at Koh Samui. The airport is wonderful, I wish all airports were like that. They even had free food while we were waiting for our flight. We also had an experience with being early and having to wait to check in, but it was in Phuket. We’d been on a bus the whole night and desperately wanted to sleep. We ended up renting beach chairs to hang out for a few hours. There was a very cute dog on the beach and I started crying because I missed my dogs so much and I was so tired.
