Cape Town has a fabulous new event on its annual social calendar, an opportunity to celebrate what being a woman is all about! The inaugural Women’s Lifestyle Expo took place at The Lookout, V&A Waterfront over the weekend of 18-20 April, with an array of luxury lifestyle brands on show.
The weekend kicked off with a media brunch, which I was invited to attend. With food by Dish Food & Social, bubbly by Rhebokskloof, hosted by the hilarious Irit Noble. This was a great way to find out exaclty what the expo had to offer.
We got to meet a rather special young woman, 19 year old, Jenna Lowe, who has been living with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension since her diagnosis at age 17. PH is a degenerative, life-threatening condition, which has changed Jenna’s life forever. Jenna is an amazing inspiration and despite her condition continues to inspire others, with her maturity and zest for life. The Women’s Lifestyle Expo donated 8% of ticket sales from the expo, to the Jenna Lowe Trust!
Sally Creed, Jonno Proudfoot and David Grier, co-authors of the Real Meal Revolution, gave us a brief intro to the book and the philosophy behind it, as well as some practical “banting “ advice.
With over 800 visitors a day, Capetonians were encouraged to take time out to relax and enjoy the spoils on offer. En Masse were on hand to help you de-stress, while Eye Candy Brows simultaneously helped you redefine those brows, with the ancient technique of threading. Fashionistas were spoiled for choice with a variety of stylish ensembles on offer – MilQ & Honey, Jo Carlin, Spilt Milk, Miglio Designer Jewellery and Poppy Divine were some of the beautiful brands showcasing their collections.
I returned to the expo on the Sunday with my family in tow! My girls were not going to miss out on the opportunity to be pampered!
While the girls indulged in a bit of pampering, my hubby made himself very comfortable on the amazing outside deck.
Below are a few of the highlights we experienced at the Women’s Lifestyle Expo:
We had a fabulous afternoon at the expo! With over 60 curated exhibitors, showcasing the latest in fashion, beauty, wellness and business, you really can’t afford to miss out on next year’s expo!

Da Vinci Exhibition Cape Town Extended
I am not sure how many of you are big art fans, like me but the Da Vinci Exhibition, in Cape Town, has been extended! The Exhibition, which is the most comprehensive exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci to tour the world, was only scheduled to run until the 9th February 2014 but due to high demand, it has now been extended until 23 March 2014!
Da Vinci – The Genius is showing at Chavonnes Battery Museum, Clock Tower, V&A Waterfront. It showcases the achievements of Renaissance giant, Leonardo da Vinci and enlightens visitors about the unimaginable depth and breadth of Leonardo’s influence and intellectualism.
“This exhibition is a must-see for anyone who appreciates Leonardo’s exceptional works of art, not least the Mona Lisa, and for anyone who is interested in discovering how Leonardo laid the groundwork for some of modern society’s most impactful inventions, such as the helicopter, airplane, automobile, submarine, parachute and bicycle,” ~ Tyrone Thöle, managing director of Great World Exhibitions
I am super excited to be attending the exhibition this evening, as Da Vinci was actually one of the artists I studied at school and I am looking forward to seeing his work up close and personal!

Just Engage Moms Morning
Last Saturday I was invited to attend a Mom’s Morning hosted by Just Engage, at the stunning Banksia Boutique Hotel and Spa, in Cape Town.
Just Engage is an online but interactive antenatal course, created to assist those who are preparing to become parents. The amazing thing about the course is that it does not matter where you are located, whether it is Cape Town, Gauteng or Durban or some tiny village or town in between, you can have access to one of the most comprehensive courses this country has to offer.
Upon arrival at Banksia Hotel, each mom or mom to be received a wonderful goodie bag, filled with an array of products, vouchers and information leaflets. We were then given the opportunity to mingle and explore the beautiful Banksia Hotel – what a stunning location! A variety of yummy eats and gorgeous teas, were elegantly displayed and begging to be sampled 🙂 who could resist!
Sharon, the founder of Just Engage then invited us to take our seats and gave us a brief run down of the mornings events. She then introduced the guest speaker for the morning, Dr. Bavi Vythilingum, who is a mom, as well as a qualified Psychiatrist in private practice and an honorary senior lecturer at UCT. She previously held the position of the head of the Woman’s Mental Health Unit at UCT. Her clinical research interests are in the field of Women’s Mental Health.
Dr. Bavi Vythilingum’s talk focused on a mothers well-being post birth, high-lighting the very real issues surrounding Postnatal Depression(PND) and dealing with motherhood as a new mom. PND is something that can affect anyone after birth and the most important thing is to seek help! The amazing thing is, despite all her accreditation’s, even Dr.Vythilingum, was not immune to suffering from PND, once again illustrating that it can happen to anyone. As a mom you slowly realise, as you get older and wiser that “good enough” is often more than enough, so remember to not be so hard on yourself and simply enjoy the journey because no one is perfect!
Thank you to Sharon and the Just Engage team for a wonderful morning and spoiling us with wonderful prizes! I received a stunning baby bag from Living and Loving, which I will definitely be passing on to a new mommy 🙂
Just Engage is offering 10 Expectant Mommy readers a chance to receive 50% Discount off an antenatal course before August 2013.
