As you may be aware, we moved home at the end of last year, which was quite an upheaval! We are relatively settled now but are battling a bit with a lack of space, as the house is incomplete – our project for 2015! The most important project, for me that is, is my Home Office! [Read more…]

Made by You & Cavendish Recycle Pop-Up Store
Made by You & Cavendish
Last week I attended the launch of the Made by You & Cavendish Recycle Pop-Up Store in Cavendish square, in Claremont.
To give you a bit of background on this project – over the past three month Cavendish have been running a #cavendishcares project which focused on the WDC2014 theme âTODAY FOR TOMORROW â sustainable solutions for people and planetâ. They tasked local green designers including Pitchulik, WREN & Give It Bag to create sustainable products utilizing the waste produced at Cavendish Square.
The challenge was to turn the waste into beautifully designed, functional and desirable recycled products, to in turn amplify the visibility of the Centreâs sustainable outlook. Through this initiative, titled âMade By You & Cavendish Squareâ (MBY&C), the Centreâs shopping community, have in fact contributed to the creation of these products!
I thought I would share a few photoâs I took at the event, showcasing a few of the amazing products on offer. Remember Christmas is not far off, so this is the perfect opportunity to get your shopping started đ
I would just like to mention that all the proceeds from sales from MBY&C go directly to the creators of the products and not to Cavendish Square, which I think is awesome!
At the launch we also got a how-to demonstration from Tsidi Ramofolo, from NEWCO designs, on DIY coaster making.
A project which really stood out for me, at the launch, is the Street Sleeper!  The Street Sleeper Billboard to Bag concept, up-cycles disused PVC billboard from landfill, to create a survival sleeping bag. This project not only creates local employment but it provides people in need, with shelter from the elements. To find out more about this project or to gift a bag please visit the Street Sleeper Website.
The popâup store will be operational for the month of October and is located in ColâCacchio court on the Lower Ground Floor in Cavendish Square, operating from 10am â 5pm daily.

Home Decor with Johnson Inkjet Tiles
Home Decor
In a few months we will be moving to new home and taking on quite a large renovation project! Although somewhat scary, I love home decor projects, especially the journey of personalising a space and making it your own. I find the process so creative and extremely satisfying.
When it comes to home decor I prefer, neutral and natural-looking decor, particularly when it comes to floor coverings. Wood or natural stone costs a bomb, so I was very intrigued when I heard about Johnson Inkjet Tiles. These beautiful tiles provide a great substitute to home owners, who want to embark on home improvements and prefer the natural look, but may not have the budget for natural stone or solid wood flooring.
As I have mentioned before bringing nature into your home decor, is a good place to start your creative process, especially when looking at colour palettes. Find out which colours complement each other and exist in harmony, in nature and allow this to influence your decor choices.
Inkjet printing technology will allow for high-definition printing on uneven surfaces, such as ceramic and porcelain tiles. This has led to the development of tiles that look exactly like wood and natural stone but at a fraction of the price. So you can introduce these nature inspired elements without breaking the bank!
Tiles with a wood inkjet design can now go where wood has not gone before â wet spaces. These wood-look tiles are ideal for the bathroom and work just as well as decking on the patio, especially those with a textured finish. The latest stone prints combine different types of natural stone such as marble, slate and travertine thus featuring a variety of veining patterns.
Consumers are seeking out flooring solutions that are going to offer them value in the longest term, understanding that cheaper alternatives will not last as long, and will not wear as well. Inkjet tiles offer customers on-trend finishes that they desire without having to pay too much to get the look theyâre after. ~ Richard Nuss, marketing manager for Johnson Tiles.
Inkjet tiles that imitate stone are ideal for open-plan living areas as they blend together beautifully and therefore create a seamless flow from one space to the next.

Getting Organised with 27Pinkx
As you know I love interior decor and finding creative ways to give a space a new lease on life, whether it is by changing wall colour or introducing interesting decor items.
The thing is decor and interiors are not only the pretty, aesthetic aspects but also involve organisation and practical storage solutions, to help a space function better.
My eldest daughter turned 13 this year which has prompted making a few decor changes in her bedroom. In essence removing all the very girlie items to make way for a more mature, trendy look. We created an accent wall by painting one wall a vibrant jewel green shade and introduced visual interest by adding Black and White prints.
We also need to find a home for her ever expanding makeup collection – she is my daughter after all! There are so many different types of storage solutions to choose from but my favourite for makeup are perspex draw organisers, like the one above from 27Pinkx. I love the fact that they are clear and you can actually see all your makeup but at the same time it is not cluttering up your dressing table or desk!
For my daughters room we used the 3 draw perspex mini organiser from 27Pinkx. They have a variety of sizes but this one was perfect for the amount of makeup she needed to store.
You can very neatly arrange all your different makeup and beauty items into categories, in the various draws, as we have done above.
We also styled the unit with a few of her favourite personal items, including a cute owl as a makeup brush holder. Adding these personal touches, makes it become part of the room decor, rather than just a storage unit!
For more information on the 3 Draw Mini Organiser and other products on offer please check out the 27Pinkx Website.
WOOLWORTHS HOMEWARE SUMMER 2014
I recently attended the Woolworths Homeware Summer 2014 trends presentation, aptly named “The Season of Innovations”. With great new products that will not only look great in your home, but are created to be more sustainable, using materials, products and processes, which are more environmentally friendly. I thought I would share of my favourite items from the Woolworths summer range.
Woolworths have always been one of my favourite homeware stores and they did not disappoint, with their new season offerings.
As well as bold colours summer colours, they have created more neutral palettes, as well as more feminine, almost vintage stories.
One of my favourite innovations for summer are bowls and plates made from bamboo fibre. These products are practical for outdoor dining but still have an element of modern elegance.
This eco-friendly fibre comes from a renewable source and is both food safe and dishwasher safe.
Staying with outdoor dining, Woolworths only stock 100% melamine tableware, which has been tested and retested, to ensure it is 100% non-toxic and food-safe.
For the more serious chef their new black pan cooking set, coated with non-stick Lotus Rock ceramic, is stunning and definitely something I will be investing in! This new technology is free of toxic chemicals and is energy saving, durable and easy to clean.
As I have mentioned before, one of the easiest ways to brighten up any room and give it an instant makeover, is by adding scatter cushions! Soft furnishing are a relatively in expensive way to give a room a fresh new look and you can swop them out at any stage if you tire of them.
Woolies scatter cushions are made from natural and sustainable imported yarns or recycled felt.
Woolworths sources glassware from all over the world but are particularly proud of their glassware from NgwenyaGlass, which is located in neighbouring Swaziland. Ngwenya Glass has been supplying Woolworths for a number of years and the range was intially included in their Artisan ranges but this Summer the Ngwenya Glass will become part of the Studio.W range.
We have partnered with Ngwenya glass as not only do they create valuable jobs in our neighbouring Swaziland & produce quality glassware they also have the same sustainability values as us. Their glassware is made out of 100% recycled glass and their furnaces are powered with local recycled oil, in fact wherever possible throughout their factory they are using recycled materials.
My favourites, as far as linen and bedding goes, is the rather opulent W Collection range. You will find luxurious bed linen, with metallic embelishment and faux fur throws, beautiful glass vases and hurricane lamps – perfect for creating a romantic bedroom setting!
I absolutely love the blue and white palette of the eastern style teapot and mugs below!
There is so much to look forward to for summer, with this amazing homeware collection from Woolworths! Youâll find these and other beautiful, innovative homeware at selected Woolworths stores from mid-August 2014.
