Someone recently asked me which aspect of running Inspired Living SA was the most enjoyable – well it would have to be the reviews, especially Accommodation and Restaurant Reviews but I particularly love reviewing Beauty Spa’s! When I was invited to visit Fresh Wellness Spa, situated at the Cellars Hohenort in Constantia, I was particularly excited as my hubby, and I spent our honeymoon night at the Cellars! [Read more…]
What’s Hot Beauty Finds
I know I have not done a Favourites post in forever, which is so frustrating because I have so many awesome products, to share with you! Doing in-depth reviews on every beauty product I receive also takes so long{don’t worry I will still do them} and the other thing is, every second blogger is doing a some type of favourites post, so I thought I would try a different approach!
Instead of a lengthy Favourites post once a month, I will be doing my What’s Hot posts, with What’s Hot Beauty Finds & Favourites, Fashion & Foodie Finds and other awesomely interesting things I need to share with you! These posts will not be monthly but rather if and when I have some fabulousness, you need to know about.
So without further ado a few of my Beauty Finds..
- L’Oreal Visible Lift Serum Absolute Makeup ~ I have had this foundation for a while but only recently started using it and I have been very pleasantly surprised! It contains Anti-aging ingredients, as well as a SPF 17 and has Medium Coverage. The Visible Lift Serum Absolute features an age reversing serum of 5 ingredients, all packed into one makeup. I love the lightweight formula, which feels amazing on the skin and does not settle into lines and wrinkles. What makes it Hot? Besides because I say so 😉 Well the wonderful silky smooth formulation for one and the fact that it contains serums to fight signs of aging, is certainly a big plus for me! RRP R229.95
- Blistex Nuture & Nourish Lip Protectant ~ I received a few Blistex goodies to try a little while ago and have completely fallen in love with this lip balm. It is super hydrating, as well as smelling good enough to eat! Nuture & Nourish contains olive & grapeseed oils, goji extract, Vitamin E and essential minerals. What makes it Hot? Well the fact that it actually does what it says “Nuture & Nourish” and it contain a SPF15, a definite must for someone like me, who exercises outdoors! RRP R55.95
- L’Extraordinaire by Color Riche® ~ Created by L’Oreal to be more than a lipstick, L’Extraordinaire Lip Colours contain oils, to help create perfect lustrous lips, with magnified colour. When applied L’Extraordinaire feels like a gloss but the combination of oils and rich pigment, gives it the staying power of a lipstick. It contains a combination of four precious oils: Rosa Muscat, Lotus, Argan and Camelia. L’Extraordinaire by Color Riche® is available in 7 different shades. What makes it Hot? I love the flexible spatula applicator, which makes it super easy to apply. The texture and feel on your lips is amazing and the colour super pigmented, I cannot wait to try a few more shades! RRP 169.95
- Infallible Gel Nail Lacquers ~ When I first received these, before reading the press release, I actually thought they were lip colours! They are however L’Oreal’s new 2 Step, Infallible Gel Nail Lacquers. Step 1 is your latex and silicone nail colour and Step 2 is the magnifying top coat. A rather genesis idea! The polish is said to last 12 Days but I would probably say realistically a week would until the tips of my nails began to peek through. The polish did not chip at all which I think is due to the gel finish, my only complaint is that the darker shade, Forever Burgundy, did stain my nails a bit, even with a base coat. Infallible Gel Nail Lacquers are available in 8 different shades. What makes it Hot? Definitely the convenience of having a nail colour and a top coat to enhance the colour, all in one product! The “gel-finish” looks great, much like a Gelish or Shellac Mani, without the difficult process of removing it.RRP R99.95

Cindy Horton Learn The Art of Makeup
I recently spent a morning with Cindy Horton, a talented make-up artist, who specialises in beauty and fashion make-up and styling. Cindy has an extensive knowledge of the beauty industry and has become the go-to-girl for beauty editors on tips, and advice for magazines and online articles.
Since completing her diploma, in make-up artistry and hair styling, Cindy has made inroads into the film and fashion industry in Cape Town, with 9 years of experience now under her belt. During this time, she’s worked with local and international celebrities, photographers and production companies, doing what she loves the most ~ making other people look gorgeous!
Cindy recently invited me to her make-up studio, which is situated at Rouge Day Spa in Kenilworth, to experience a Cindy Horton Learn The Art of Makeup lesson. The aim of these lessons, is to equip you with the know-how to master professional make-up techniques, achieve a flawless make-up application and how to emphasise your features, to reveal your natural beauty.
I have probably been applying my make-up in a similar way for most of my adult life – with the help of a few YouTube tutorials here and there! Not to say that I am great at applying makeup but I think I do an ok job but as with most things, there is always room for improvement and who does not want to achieve a flawless look.
In my Hand-On Lesson Cindy first discussed my skin condition and any concerns I have. We then went through the basic tools required to achieve a flawless application. What I did not realise, which should have been apparent with the “Hands-On” title was Cindy would demonstrate on half of my face and would do the other! I must admit I was a bit nervous at first but it is actually the perfect way to learn how to apply makeup properly.
Cindy took me through each part of make-up application step by step – from prepping my skin, to foundation, concealer, to eye and lip makeup application. What amazed me the most, was how few products it took to create an amazing look! I loved the fact that we used the same two products for eyes, as well as for contouring and highlighting my cheeks. Once we had created the basic look – for everyday make-up, Cindy showed me how to add a few touches to make it a bit more glam. You can see a photo of the finished look above – please excuse the bathroom mirror selfie 😉
After my session with Cindy, she sent me a follow up email detailing the products we used split into must-haves, the everyday make-up essentials and additional nice-to-haves, to glam up your look. One of the services Cindy offers is to actually shop for you and buy products you really need, which in the long run will save you money! Below are the products Cindy used for my make-up lesson:
Must-have products
Foundation – MAC Studio fluid NW25
Concealer – MAC NW25
Powder – MAC Prep + Prime
Highlighter eyeshadow (used for eyes and checkbones) – MAC Brule Satin
Contour eyeshadow (used for eyes and cheekbones) – Wedge matte
Blusher – Benefit Havana
Eyebrows – MAC Redhead brow duo (the darker colour can be purchased separately)
Eyeliner – Smashbox shadow trio
Mascara – Maybelline Colossal
Lips – MAC Fanfair creme lipstick
Additional products
Lipliner – MAC Natural lip pencil
Eyeshadow – Woodwinked (evening)
Eyeliner – MAC black pencil liner
Lipgloss – MAC Double Happiness
Brushes – 12 piece professional brush set (I retail these in my studio for R850)
I loved my make-up lesson and definitely learnt a few great tips and tricks to use in my everyday routine! I think these lessons would be extremely beneficial if you have no idea how to apply make-up or if you just need a few pointers in how to perfect the art of make-up application. Keep a lookout there is a competition coming your way soon, where you can win a wonderful make-up lesson with Cindy!

Getting Organised with 27Pinkx
As you know I love interior decor and finding creative ways to give a space a new lease on life, whether it is by changing wall colour or introducing interesting decor items.
The thing is decor and interiors are not only the pretty, aesthetic aspects but also involve organisation and practical storage solutions, to help a space function better.
My eldest daughter turned 13 this year which has prompted making a few decor changes in her bedroom. In essence removing all the very girlie items to make way for a more mature, trendy look. We created an accent wall by painting one wall a vibrant jewel green shade and introduced visual interest by adding Black and White prints.
We also need to find a home for her ever expanding makeup collection – she is my daughter after all! There are so many different types of storage solutions to choose from but my favourite for makeup are perspex draw organisers, like the one above from 27Pinkx. I love the fact that they are clear and you can actually see all your makeup but at the same time it is not cluttering up your dressing table or desk!
For my daughters room we used the 3 draw perspex mini organiser from 27Pinkx. They have a variety of sizes but this one was perfect for the amount of makeup she needed to store.
You can very neatly arrange all your different makeup and beauty items into categories, in the various draws, as we have done above.
We also styled the unit with a few of her favourite personal items, including a cute owl as a makeup brush holder. Adding these personal touches, makes it become part of the room decor, rather than just a storage unit!
For more information on the 3 Draw Mini Organiser and other products on offer please check out the 27Pinkx Website.
