Winter is not my favourite season, mostly because I truly dislike being cold! One positive I have found, however, is Winter Fashion. Warm jackets and coats, scarves and stylish boots, almost make the cold grey weather bearable. Naturally, every look requires accessories, so I thought I would share some inspiration featuring my new Daniel Wellington watch. [Read more…]

There is not usually much need to dress up for the weekday school run but I still like to look good. The thing is, weekday fashion should not require too much effort but deliver maximum effect. In essence Casual Fashion should be understated but you should still look groomed and well put together. [Read more…]
Last week I attended a fashion event with a difference! Habits Fashion Meets Wine, held at De Grendel. It was my first ever fashion and wine pairing! What a great idea – two of my favourite things in one room!
Auric Auto, very kindly, chauffeured guests from Claremont, out to De Grendel Wine Estate, in Durbanville, where the event was held. I must admit it was a rather fun experience being chauffeured – something I could quite possibly get used to!
The Habits Fashion Meets Wine, was also a celebration of the new tasting lounge at De Grendel. While the tasting room at De Grendel offers both wine tasting and platters, the new stylish tasting lounge, is exclusively reserved for wine tasting only.
Habits Fashion Meets Wine
We started off festivities with a delicious glass of De Grendel MCC Brut – not entirely sure that there is a better way to start your day!
After a brief welcome, it was over to iconic fashionista Jenny le Roux from Habits. For those of you who do not know, Habits has been a fashion institution in Cape Town, for as long as I can remember!
The fashion items, which were paired with various De Grendel wines, were from the Habits Fashion Week 2015 Collection. Each garment selected was thoughtfully paired with a De Grendel wine, which mirrored or enhanced the character of the design.
Below you can see the gorgeous Habits designs, from Fashion Week 2015, each displayed with their wine pairing.
The beautiful Variegated Stripe Satin Dress below, was my absolute favourite. It was perfectly paired with the De Grendel Chardonnay. Both the design and the wine are rich and full, with an air of elegance and sophistication!
Another favourite design of mine was the Emperor Satin Caroline Skirt, below, worn with a crisp White Shirt. It was paired with the De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc. The Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc grapes are handled differently, in the vineyards as well as in the cellar, to ensure a bigger and a bolder wine. This makes it a perfect pairing with the design of the Caroline Skirt, which is bold and dramatic, while still projecting a feeling classic style!
What a truly fun experience was had at the Habits Fashion Meets Wine event! Thank you to Habits for the fabulous fashion and De Grendel for the beautiful venue and superb wine. Not to forget Auric Auto for getting us safely to the venue and back to Claremont again, in BMW style!

Winter Fashion 2015
I always thought that my favourite season was summer but over the past few years I have really gotten into the winter vibe – especially when it comes to Winter Fashion! I still do not like running around in the rain but Winter Fashion almost makes it bearable.
A recent trip to the UK sent me scurrying around trying to find a few winter essentials before I set off on my trip. Even though it was March in London, the weather was still rather cold! Certainly cold enough for thicker jackets and boots. I will do another post, which will features a few of my Winter Fashion Finds. For now, I thought I would share my Winter Fashion Inspiration, as you can definitely feel the chill in the air in Cape Town and winter fast approaching!
My ultimate style crush is Jessica Alba – I really love her casual, yet chic, “I woke up like this” approach to fashion. She never looks over-styled, just well put together, projecting effortless style.
She also happens to the queen of “the hat” – she loves hats and somehow always manages to pull off the look, no matter the outfit or season!
Winter fashion is all about layering! Starting with your basic long Tshirts or thin knits and building on that to create and overall well put together look, which is both warm and stylish.
Last but certainly not least! It is all about the boot! Whether they are long, short, slouch or classic – you need to have a selection of boots in your shoe wardrobe! My favourite at the moment, are slouch boots but lace-up ones, similar to the pair Jessica is wearing in the image below.
I hope you find some inspiration from the post for your winter wardrobe. Please check back for more fashion and style inspiration soon!

One of the fashion trends I am really loving for summer, is tailored or structured shorts. I am not the tallest person in the world and always feel slightly self-conscious wearing short-shorts but recently discovered that wearing more tailored shorts can be very flattering.
I think the key, for me anyway, is to ensure the shorts are not too short but not too long either. If they are too long they tend to cut off my leg in the wrong place and make me look even shorter! The key with fashion, is to always dress your body shape and showcase your best “bits”!
This is a look that can be very casual or quite chic, depending on how you style it. There are endless possibilities as far as tops go, either a short sleeved blouse or a long sleeved demin shirt work well. As far as shoes go, you can pair tailored shorts, with a pair of ballet flats or strappy sandals or you can glam it up a bit with a pair of sexy wedges or heels.
If shorts are tailored correctly and styled well, you can carry a great shorts look from morning to evening.
After a bit of hunting around, I found a great black pair of tailored shorts at Country Road. I have been wearing them non-stop since I bought them. I love pairing them with a pretty blouse, tucked in at the waist or a more fitted T-shirt or tank. To smarten up the look for evening, you could simply slip on a blazer or denim jacket.
What do you think of this look? Is it something you would wear?

Today I bring you my What’s Hot Fashion Finds! I am truly so over winter and wearing boots and chunky knits! I am cannot wait for spring to arrive, so that I can pack all my winter woolies away and get my tootsies out in the sun! Ok so it is not really shorts and sandals weather yet but it is certainly time to start looking out for those transitional pieces.
The transitional look below is one of my favourites for in-between seasons and you will find me wearing something very similar going into spring.
I have not consciously being looking for spring or summer items but it is always in the back of my mind, with our trip to Italy less than 3 weeks away! Naturally I am planning to do some shopping while we are there but I still need to ensure I have a few items to take with me.
These are a few of my latest Fashion Finds:
- Mango Jeans Skull Top ~ I am afraid I have a slight obsession with skulls and could simply not resist this top from Mango. It is light-weight, perfect to wear, either on its own or under a jacket. It looks great paired with washed-out blue boyfriend jeans and as good with white skinnies. What makes it Hot? Well the skull for one and who doesn’t like a bit of sparkle!!?? RRP R349.95 Edgars Canal Walk
- Jean Kelly New York Black Ballet Flats ~ I am simply in love with these ballet flats, you will have no idea how comfortable they are until you actually slip them onto your feet! Its like heaven for feet 🙂 I really had a hard time choosing a colour but I already have a tan pair of flats, so black was my next choice but I have my eyes on one or two more pairs! What makes it Hot? They are the most comfortable shoes I own barring my slippers and they look awesome too! RRP R499 Jean Kelly
- Poetry Rare Earth Floral Scarf ~ I actually bought this scarf a little while ago but the weather was a bit to grey and gloomy of late, so I only hauled it out about two weeks ago and have been wearing it ever since 🙂 Much like skulls I definitely have a thing for scarves – lets just say I have many! This scarf reminds me of a spring garden just beginning to bloom, so pretty with fuchsia, corals, aqua and green shades. I particularly like the Poetry or Old Khaki scarves for transitional wear, as the are quite light-weight for those in between days, when there is still a slight chill in the air. They also have a great range of scarves at very affordable prices. What makes it Hot? The gorgeous colours are perfect for spring! RRP R140 Poetry
