If I am not behind my desk, then you will probably find me in the kitchen! It is important to me that a kitchen is functional, as well as being an inspirational space! As you know, we moved house just over a year ago, and although the kitchen is functional, it could differently do with a bit of a facelift! I am always scouring home decor mags and the web to find Decor Inspiration for my space. I usually find lots of inspiration and ideas for my home on Houzz.com.
In my kitchen, I would like to create a space which is a contemporary and uncluttered, with a less-is-more feel. I have found wonderful decor inspiration from Scandinavian interior spaces. They create balance by keeping the colour palette subdued while adding different textures to keep it interesting. My colour palette of choice for my kitchen is Grey and White.
Although I love painted cupboards, the existing kitchen cabinets are white and to avoid significant costs I am happy to keep them like that. One of the first projects, after we moved in, was to renovate the laundry room, which included bricking up a hatch into the kitchen. This was the perfect opportunity to get creative, so I chose to paint the wall a dark grey colour. By doing this, I created a beautiful accent or feature wall. I also love the idea of a feature or accent wall in exposed brick.
Getting the lighting right in a kitchen is also important! The lighting in our kitchen is in definite need of a revamp! Other than down-lights in a kitchen, one of my favourite trends is pendant lighting. I particularly love copper, which creates a beautiful warm glow in the kitchen. I have my eye on something similar to the light below.
Creating textural elements in the space is essential. Wood is something both Grant, and I love in our home, but there is none in a kitchen at the moment. I am hoping to introduce either a large wooden shelf on my feature wall or go with wood flooring, but the jury is still out on that one.
Another element of focus in my kitchen revamp is the seating. We have very outdated barstools, which desperately need replacing! I would love to go for something completely off the wall and funky, but it is vital that they are also comfortable!
What do you think of these spaces, would you use any of these ideas in your home? Please let me know if you enjoy these decor inspiration posts and would like to see more! I will also keep you updated on the progress, as my kitchen revamp evolves.
