Gelukkie Paternoster
I cannot believe it is February already, which naturally means Valentines Day is just around the corner! One of my favourite things to do with my hubby for Valentines is a romantic getaway! It can be for one night or a weekend, either way it is time for us to spend together, away for the craziness of everyday life!
You may remember a post I did last year after a visit to Gelukkie Self-catering accommodationΒ situated in Paternoster. The accommodation at Gelukkie consists of two beautifully decorated self-catering cottages, Klein Gelukkie and Nog βN Gelukkie.
Paternoster isΒ a quaint Seaside town, up the West Coast,Β approximately a 2 hour drive from Cape Town. It really is the perfect place for a romantic weekend away!
Klein Gelukkie is a spacious self-catering cottage, containing a king size bed, chill out room, dining area and fully functional kitchen. The decor is wonderfully quirky and the space is both cosy and inviting.
Nog βN Gelukkie is a cosy self catering unit nestled very privately on the back of the farm. This cottage contains a king size bed, lounge and fully functional kitchen along with a walk-in wardrobe. The private garden comes complete with braai facilities and day bed. The perfect romantic getaway.
As well as accommodation Gelukkie has their venue, Joy, which is available for birthdays, weddings or conferences. The Joy functions venue, consists of a semi-enclosed Garden Room, outdoor garden area and bar, as well as the services of wedding coordinator Cindy.

My birthday is on Valentines Day so its a double celebration. I do love going for a romantic dinner with my hubby but a weekend away would be even better
Lynn botha says
I would spend this romantic getaway with my hubby. We have 2 gorgeous toddlers, and going away on a romantic week-end just wasn’t an option.. but they are getting older now and I think we have earned some alone time π My ideal valentines day would be just spending it with someone I love – doesn’t have to be at an expensive restaurant, but just going somewhere and being able to enjoy each others company would be great. And if we were able to spend the night somewhere, that would just be the cherry on top π
Tania says
My ideal Valentines Day will be time spend at the beach, late afternoon till sunset, enjoying a picnic and champagne with my husband and best friend. Relaxed, being close to nature especially the sea, listening to waves breaking on the rocks and seagulls making their sounds in the back ground. This would be a wonderful calm, relaxing and romantic setting for celebrating the day of LOVE, Valentines Day!
Nicole Pretorius says
My ideal Valentine’s Day is a night or 2 away from Cape Town. Somewhere quiet and relaxing. A place we can relax, braai some fish and just relax with a glass of champagne (non-alcoholic for me as there’s a baby on the way!)
I will be spending Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend of 3 years and whether it’s spent eating 2 minute noodles at home or somewhere out of town, it will be perfect π

i would love to spend valentines day with my partner, on a picnic day out, with wine, cheese, roses, until late in the day then back home relax and enjoy warm bath with him.
Nadia says
This would be perfect!!!! just what I need and just what i’m looking for. Haven’t been away with hubby since our honeymoon.
We live with his family so its pretty tough having some alone time and getting away with 2 busy babies was not an easy job when they were little. This year they a bit older and we also ready to let them be away from us for a weekend…. (well I hope we are)
Heather de Bruin says
I am single and so I am actually entering this for my mom and dad who so deserve a spoil.
My mom has wanted to visit and stay over in Paternoster as long as I can remember , this year they will have been married for 42 years and it would be such a treat to spoil them π
In answer to your question:
I think as you get older an ideal Valentines is all about quality time together and less about the frills , for them just a walk on the beach or taking photo’s whilst meandering through the quaint town are what makes them happy. Dining a little restaurant and a shared smile , glance and hug are what makes us all with for the ‘ever after’ and 42 yrs is pretty amazing π

My ideal Valentines Day would have to be to get away from everyday life in the city and go spend time at a holiday destination with my love, Lloyd, where we can enjoy time spent, one on one with each other! We both love the ocean, so a seaside destination would be ideal, perhaps a beach house π Where we can sip on champagne, listen to the waves roll in and have a romantic time together π π JustTheTwoOfUS. I would spend my romantic weekend with the love of my life Lloyd Eksteen.
Nicole says
This sounds amazing! Even if I don’t win, I think I need to check this place out!

My ideal Valentines Day would be spent enjoying a picnic on the beach with my husband, with chilled champagne and all our favourite snacks and treats. I would tan while he surfs, and then we would relax with a candlelit dinner under the stars with no cell phones or electronics to interfere!

This would be an awesome way to spend much needed quality time with my husband! (and it’s my birthday this month as well!)
Thank you for an awesome competition.

Hi, my ideal V day would be AWAY FROM THE KIDS obvs, even if it is just for a dinner, a weekend would be a bonus. Having 4 kids is crazy mad.
Kelly Brook says
We just love the west coast so much. This is the perfect getaway to recharge the batteries and have a romantic evening just the two of us.
Elfreda Kilian says
My husband works overseas! I only saw him for 2 months last year (2014) and this year it will be for 3 months.
We are married for 24 years going in for 25 years!! He was unemployed for about 8 years. I would like to take him away for a weekend. After 8 months apart a person starts to grow apart, so we need some alone time and to (fall in love) again and with kids, friends and family around us – this will not be possible. For the last few years we do not know what it is to break away for the weekend, dinner or just take aways.
Melanie says
My perfect Valentines Day would be with my boyfriend, enjoying a bottle of Champagne and an amazing meal whilst chatting and giggling. I have yet to spend a Valentines day with my boyfriend as he has always been offshore with work. This would be a fantastic way to spend some quality time together π Paternoster seems like the perfect setting – would love to enjoy its beauty!

What a great competition. I would spend this with my amazing husband, who after 9 years of marriage is still my best friend and the only person that can make me laugh until my stomach hurts. He’s a great person, he’s creative, he’s funny and he’s an animal lover (what more could I ask for). We love going away and exploring our city, and this would be an amazing prize to give him!
Melissa says
My ideal Valentine’s Day is without a doubt a beautiful and tranquil day with my one and only husband of 2,5 years π If it can be a weekend that makes it the cherry on top but as long as I have him all to myself, chatting and slowing down, I’m happy. With the crazy lives we live, I treasure moments like these where we get special days to celebrate love xxx
thea lennox says
Would be awesome to win this. Haven’t been away anywhere in years./
Angie Bennett says
We have 3 kids of which two are teens and one toddler so huge amounts of chaos and stress at home. We moving houses and planning a wedding for 12 Sept 2015. It would be a dream come true to have some alone time away to get through the stress this year holds and strengthen our relationship. This prize would be my absolute perfect, dream romantic evening -absolutely necessary and away from everyone in a beautiful place.

Taking my partner to a romantic spot on the beach. This will be done at sunset, creating the most romantic setting, the time when the sky is filled with it’s “beautiful Red Colour!” I will be preparing a Sumptious home made dinner for us which includes my favourite dish “Lamb for Lovers”, not forgetting a bottle of chilled drink in an ice bucket. I will then have our favourite flowers & candles spread all over the place. I will Spell out “I LOVE YOU” in flowers on the ground, with a little gift laying inside the heart. With romantic music playing in the background and after dinner I will ask him for a dance & while dancing I would whisper words of love to him ! We would end the evening by a Bonfire, with a couple of blankets & lots of pillows on the floor and feed each other with chocolate covered strawberries & whipped cream! While bundling up under the blankets all comfy & relaxed, we will gaze into each others eyes & laying underneath the shining stars!
Matthew Kleinveldt says
I have been in a relationship with the same wonderful woman for the past 4 years. As we are both still finding our feet in the economic and corporate world, valentines day or any special occasion has never been a very big celebration for us due to finances. Each year so far my girlfriend has been the 1 spoiling me and making plans on behalf of the 2 of us as I have been unable to afford to spoil and treat her. This year I would like to treat her and this competition/prize seems like the perfect way to do so. It would definitely be the perfect valentines day weekend getaway. And it would give me the opportunity of doing something special and amazing for my girlfriend that I know she would love and enjoy.
louise says
Paternoster was the first place my then boyfriend and now husband, spend our first weekend away together.
Now after 7 years of Marriage and two presious kids later it would be great to spend another First (alone weekend without) the kiddos at this amazing place.

Marlaine Reynders says
No special valentines day for me, I ‘m single and have no one special in my life. I will be spending the day with my daughter Lizelle ( also single after a divorce and alone). We would treat each other with a flower, breakfast and some chocolates on valentines day π I would love to win because we both deserve a weekend away from home…… this would be perfect for us!!!!! π

It would consist of Lots of Kisses and Cuddles , Champagne and Truffles and not forget a Beautiful sunset with Candles to set the Ambiance ( Not sure if I used that work right )
I was lucky enough to have spent a Weekend at Nog N Gelukkie before with my Boyfriend (28 – 30th Nov 14 ) and it is a magical place . I would love to stand a chance to experience it all over again . After all Every Day is Valentines Day !

My perfect day would be spending it with my new husband even if we go to the beach just the 2 of us it will be perfect. We haven’t had a honeymoon (got married in Dec) so this would be an awesome win for us.
Tammy says
Oh what a wonderful prize! A weekend away is what this mommy, blogger, photographer, crafter and wife needs to escape the hustle and bustle of cape town and enjoy the relaxation of a weekend away!
I got married over a year ago and we didnt have a honeymoon because baby came early. Last year we celebrated our first anniversary and with our hectic lives and multitude of responsibilities we weren’t able to really celebrate it by getting away and having that quality time like all married couples need.
Cindy says
I would love to have a little getaway with my handsome 30 year old husband (he is turning 30 on Thursday). Would be an awesome double celebration. Our perfect V day would definitely include a late sleep in, long leisurely breakfast and just spending time together.
Nikki Ferreira says
With a crazy busy house consisting of 4 kids and new puppy, this is just “what the doctor ordered” for the hubby and I!
Kim Muller says
My ideal Valentine’s Day would be a sunset trip up Table Mountain, champagne and any kind of seafood picnic, ending off with a walk on the beach. The kids would be with a babysitter and I wouldn’t have to worry about them. Hubby and I would be able to just relax and BE with each other.
Gillian says
After being retrenched twice in 2 years, break aways are only a dream in my household. This weekend will just help us to relax and regather our strategies and thoughts. Perfect valentines day is anywhere, as long as my hubby is with me. 2 Bicycles, fresh air and a glass of wine together thereafter is as simple as I wish it to be.
Melissa H says
I have never been one to celebrate Valentines Day as I have always just known and celebrated my parents wedding anniversary on that day. Nothing beats quality time spent with your loved one and Valentines Day should be no exception π
Jaqi Devitt says
My fiancΓ© and I were blessed enough to find love a second time around in one another and he is the one person that I want to spend every special occasion with. Especially valentines day, because his love helped my broken heart to believe in love again.. We work a lot, which is not a bad thing, but we don’t get too much time to relax alone. A getaway like this will be the perfect way to throw ourselves into blissful unwinding and recharge…and finally celebrate our engagement.
Lenai says
My perfect Valentines would be spending it at home (we have a little one) with my husband and have sushi take away with our favourite bubbly and some nice music. If the weather permits we’ll do it picnic style in our garden!
ariadne kellerman says
We can all dream and it is magical to see so much love…but I want to wake up in the arms of my ‘ploepsie’ en wie weet miskien tref ons n kleine ou gelukkie π

I will be spending Valentine’s Day with my wonderful husband! We got married in May last year, so this is our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. My perfect Valentine’s Day would involve time with my husband, wonderful food and bubbly, cheesecake for dessert. And, of course, chocolate! I think a picnic would be perfect…. (Oh, and our gorgeous Labrador would definitely be with us!)
Linda Laing says
My ideal valentine would be with my husband AND it would not matter where we are as long as we are together and can share some precious moments together as he works in Durban and I live in Cape Town and we do not see each other as often as we want to.
Karen says
wow!! Gelukkie is asemrowend!!! I can see myself and hubbie going for long romantic strolls on those lovely beaches. I really would be so grateful to win this romantic getaway, especially because I have to go away for work for two weeks just after Valentine’s Day π we have never been to Paternoster, so that would make the experience even more special.
Can already feel my toes in the sand π

My ideal Valentines day would to awake up to the sound of the ocean with the love of my life, Zack, laying next to me, then we would both indulge in a yummy breakfast as we are both foodies and walk it off by taking a long stroll on the private beach, catching up, being friends, connecting with each other and the natural world. We would end our night with some music and a fire to keep the evening going til the embers burned out and fall asleep knowing that that day we lived our best life.
Charlene says
The past couple of months have been absolutely crazy; it feels as though hubs and I haven’t spoken in ages. Just a quiet dinner would be amazing. But a weekend away would be out of this world (obviously) ????
Linzy L says
Crayfish scare me silly. I would like to spend Valentines day in Padenoste to give my partner (of many years) the chance to “teach” me not to fear those horrible creepy crawly creatures.. Perhaps to also enjoy one on the plate as much as he does.
Maryke says
We spent a few days at nog ‘n gelukkie during December 2014 and it was absolutely idyllic. The setting is so serene and romantic. Of a 3 and a half week holiday in the Cape, gelukkie was by far one of our highlights. My boyfriend and I would love to spend another weekend there soon. In the meantime, we will be spending Valentine’s Weekend together somewhere in the bush. Alone, quiet and romantic!
thea lennox says
Was a awful 2014, 2015 did not start better. Don’t know if we deserve it but it would be wonderful to have a break with my husband. Were married for 21 years last year and i weren’t home. He’d be so surprise if i won this and we could get a break away
Mira Weiner says

My ideal Vday date would be a picnic on “The Big Rock” situated up one of the hiking trails down Boyes Drive in Kalk Bay – it has the most amazing view of the city and to be up their with my boyfriend would mean the world to me! The perfect valentines will be with my fiance jaco Ellis. It will start with a romantic break away weekend. The Friday evening we will have a romantic dinner with some dancing and then early the next morning we will go for a hot air balloon ride. Afterwards he will surprise me with flowers and a walk along the beach π yes I am a hopeless romantic!
chanel laubscher says
My ideal Valentine’s day would be with my amazing boyfriend. Mostly it would not matter where we are ir what we do since just being together is enough. though if I had to choose I would say a picnic at a winefarm with wine tasting, followed by a bottle of bubbly at Clifton watching the sunset and then a romantic candlelit dinner. I know this would be great and fun cause we always make each other laugh and have a great time. And I am sure to be surprised somehow cause my man loves romantic surprises
Nelleke Elston says
Well, seeing as I have an 11 month old now and this is my first Valentines day as a mommy I wouldn’t mind sharing this special day with my little daughter. I absolutely love Paternoster and the beach. So, I think spending the day on the beach with my hubby of 7 years and my little daughter will be such a blessing. With a packed picnic with some special treats, all our favourites, like macarons, berries, champers, cured meats and cheeses… delicious.
anyuschka says
My perfect Valentines day is to do exactly what we will be doing this year- not go to a crowded restaurant but stay at home, have my fiance cook me a lovely meal….enjoy a glass of wine and champagne and watch a romantic comedy of my choice. It really is not where you go but who you spend it with and enjoying the moment together as the day really is a celebration of your love. This will be our last Valentines day together before we get married next month, which while exciting as it is, has left us both exhausted. We would love to have a sneaky romantic getaway before our wedding to just relax and escape from the wedding planning frenzy.
Julia says
Romantic weekends are obviously for my husband and I! But. My ideal V-Day is spent with both my sons AND my husband. We would have heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast. Strawberries too! Then we would all go and picnic somewhere nice at a place where there is fresh air and plenty open spaces. OR we would go to the beach because that’s our favourite thing to do as a family. We would end the day with us taking silly selfies!
Ursula Strauss says
I just had a look at their FB page and Gelukkie looks perfect for a romantic getaway, just as you mentioned. I would love to whisk my love, Vaughn away by first hiring a classic car and enjoying the journey just as much as the destination. <3 he is my love and very best friend and understands how to deal with my somewhat crazy moods. Would love to treat him for a change.
